Description

This is a very attractive Victorian Sterling Silver Spoon and Fork set. The spoon and fork are in the traditional Old English pattern but this has been lifted to another level by beautiful floral engraving down the upper side of each stem. The cartouches on both spoon and fork are blank, making these ideal as a gift for a Christening, retirement or other special occasion.

The spoon and fork are made in Sheffield by Arthur Priestley & Co and date to 1897. Arthur Priestley's company was in business for a fairly short period of time between around 1892 and 1910, primarily producing spoons and flatware, so their mark is rarely seen.

Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 15.2cm / 6ins long, the fork is 14.9cm / 5.9ins long and the pair together weigh in at a substantial 55.2g / 1.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter e for 1897 and the AP makers' mark for Arthur Priestley & Co.
