Description

Here we have a superb quality Art Deco Sterling Silver Porringer or Quaich. This two handled bowl has odeon style Art Deco decoration on the two handles and forming a raised motif on each side. Porringers are an old medieval style of bowl which was used for both food and drink. In Scotland they are generally smaller, almost exclusively for drinking and referred to as a quaich.

This porringer is a very stylish and well made item by world famous silversmiths Walker & Hall. It is made in Sheffield and dates to the height of the Art Deco era in 1935. It has no initials or personalisation of any kind and would make a wonderful gift for a Christening, retirement, wedding or special birthday.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after around 85 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The porringer is 10.3cm / 4ins in diameter, 13.2cm / 5.2ins from handle to handle and 6.5cm / 2.5ins high. It weighs a very substantial 168.2g / 5.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the body below on of the handles, are well struck and crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter s for 1935 and the W & H makers' mark for Walker & Hall. The underside of the porringer is also stamped with the Walker & Hall retail mark.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
