Description

Here we have a good quality set of George V Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons in the distinctive Onslow pattern. Onslow is distinguished by its scroll top and decoration down the stem and usually, as in this case, has a shell bowl. These coffee spoons also have a barley twist to the lower part of the stem, which is less common and makes this a stand out set.

The spoons are made in Sheffield by William Hutton & Sons Ltd and date to 1919, just after the end of World War One. William Hutton & Sons are a highly regarded firm of silversmiths who always produced good quality pieces. They were in business for around 100 years from the 1890s to the 1990s.

Condition of the spoons is good with no dings or dents and just the minimal wear that you would expect after around 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 10.5cm / 4.1ins long and the set of 6 together weighs in at a very respectable 61.7g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the undersides of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter b for 1919 and the instantly recognisable WH & Ss Ld makers' mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.
