Description

This is a top quality pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Open Salts of unusual design. The salts have a gadrooned rim around their bases and each one has a pair of handles. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The salts are well made pieces in a good gauge of silver. They are by Wakely & Wheeler of London and date to 1903. Wakely & Wheeler was the successor to the Lias family business, which traced its origin back to the 1790s and had a well earned reputation as producers of fine quality silver items.

Condition of the salts is very good with no dings or dents and just the minimal amount of surface wear that you would expect in items of this age and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salts are 4.8cm / 1.9ins in diameter across the top and stand 3.4cm / 1.4ins high. The pair together weigh in at a substantial 82g / 2.89oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the side of the salts are clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter h for 1903 and the JW over FCW for James Wakely & Frank Clarke Wheeler of Wakely & Wheeler.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the salts.
