Description
Here we have a good quality set of three William IV Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the classic Fiddle pattern. Each spoon has a crest of a lion rampant elegantly engraved at the top of the stem. The teaspoons are well made in a good gauge of silver by Robert Wallis in London and date to 1837, the last year of William IV\'s reign. Robert Wallis was a specialist spoon maker who was active from the mid-1830s to the mid-1850s.
Condition is generally good with just a couple of small dings in the bowls and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 180 years of service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 14.4cm / 5.6ins long and the set of three weigh in at a substantial 74.9g / 2.64oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London, the date letter B for 1837, the William IV duty mark and the RW makers\' mark for Robert Wallis.
