Description

Here we have a good quality George V Sterling Silver Open Salt with its original Blue Glass Liner. The salt is in cauldron form with a scalloped rim and stands on three hoof feet.

This is a well made piece in a decent gauge of silver by Adie Brothers Ltd of Birmingham and dates to 1921. Adie Brothers was founded in 1906 by the merger of two existing companies and remained in business under the control of the Adie family until it was absorbed into British Silverware in the mid-1960s.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 100 years of use. It sits securely on a flat surface. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt is 4.7cm / 1.8ins across the top and stands 3.2cm / 1.25ins high. Without the blue glass liner it weighs a respectable 27.8g / 0.98oz of solid Sterling Silver. With the glass liner included it weighs in at 47.8g / 1.68oz.

The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the distinctive A Bros Ltd makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd.
