Description
This is a good quality pair of early Victorian Sterling Silver large Teaspoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoons have a letter D elegantly engraved at the top of the stems. The teaspoons are made in London by John James Whiting and date to 1839. John Whiting was a specialist spoon maker, who was in business in London between around 1833 and 1863.
Condition of both the teaspoons is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 180 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 14.6cm / 5.75ins long and the pair together weigh in at a very respectable 46.3g / 1.63oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London, the date letter D for 1839, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the script style JW makers\' mark for John James Whiting.
