Description

This is a stylish George V Cut Glass Open Salt with a hallmarked Sterling Silver rim. The salt is of a good size and has deep flower and star cut decoration around the body.

The silver rim is hallmarked for Wolfsky & Co of London and dated to 1920. Wolfsky & Co specialised in silver lids and rims for glass items both for the dining table and the dressing table. They were based in Upper Marylebone Street in London between 1891 and around 1930.

Condition of the glass salt is very good with no chips or cracks and the deep cuts still feel sharp. There are a couple of superficial scratches on the base as is to be expected after a hundred years of use. The silver rim has a few very small dings in it, as is often the case as thin silver was used for these items. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt is 6.2cm / 2.5ins in diameter and 3.8cm / 1.5ins high. It weighs 92.7g / 3.27oz.

The hallmarks on the side of the rim are a little rubbed but still easy to decipher. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London, the date letter e for 1920 and the W & Co makers\' mark for Wolfsky & Co.
