Description

Here we have an unusual shaped George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original blue glass liner. The mustard pot is from the height of the Art Deco era and has a distinctively Deco feel to it, without being as angular as many other pieces.

The mustard pot is made by George Unite & Sons & Lyle Ltd in Birmingham and dates to 1932. George Unite is a rightly renowned silversmith and founded his business back in 1832, becoming George Unite & Sons in 1873 and finally George Unite & Sons & Lyle Ltd in 1928. The firm finally closed in 1933, just a year after this item was made.

Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the minimal surface wear that you would expect for an item of this age and use. The blue glass liner is in good condition with no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pot is 4.8cm / 1.8ins in diameter across its widest part, 5.3cm / 2.1ins from rim to handle and 4cm / 1.6ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at a respectable 31.3g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the side of the body are a little rubbed but still readable. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter H for 1932 and the G.U.S & L makers mark for George Unite & Sons & Lyle Ltd. In addition there is a lion passant and date letter H on the underside of the lid.
