Description

Here we have a charming 830 grade Silver Sugar Bowl with its original blue glass liner. It is boat shaped with high ends and the pierced body of the bowl has a design featuring windmills, houses, churches and boats on a lake or river. Although most probably intended as a sugar bowl it is also suitable for holding any sauce or condiment for the table or simply as a decorative item in its own right.

The marks show that this was imported into Sweden and given the decoration it's very possible that it is Dutch in origin. It was imported into Sweden by Axel Larson of Helsingborg in 1917. Larson was an accomplished silversmith and jeweller in his own right and was a supplier to the Swedish Royal Court. He also had a retail business and it seems likely that this bowl was imported to sell in his store.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents in the silver and only the superficial surface wear you would expect after over 100 years. There are no chips or cracks in the blue glass liner. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The bowl is 14.2cm / 5.6" long, 8.5cm / 3.4" wide and stands 6.9cm / 2.6" tall at its highest point. Without the blue glass liner it weighs a substantial 132.4g / 4.67oz of solid silver.

The marks on the underside of the base are nice and clear to read. They show the three crowns in a circle and letter "S" for Swedish assayed silver, the letter "H" showing it was assayed in Helsingborg, the date code P7 for 1917 and the stamps of Axel Larson and 830S showing that it is 830 / 1000 grade silver.
