Description

Here we have a very elegant fern etched hand blown glass vase with a Sterling Silver rim from the 1920s. The vase has a bulbous base with a slender glass cylinder rising from it and the hallmarked silver rim around the top, which was made by Francis Webb in London in 1926.

The front of the vase has a lovely etched image of a group of fern leaves tied at the bottom with a ribbon.

The vase stands 15.7cm / 6.25" high. It is 5.5cm / 2.1" in diameter across the base and 3.8cm / 1.5" in diameter across the rim.

As is often the case with hand blown glass, there are a couple of small "flaws" in the base but there are no chips or cracks. The pontil mark has ground out to form a nice smooth base. The silver rim, which is only a very thin silver piece, has suffered a little with use over the years and has a few little dings and a small split when viewed from above. However this isn't noticeable when there are flowers in the vase. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The hallmarks on the side of the silver rim show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "l" for 1926 and the FW makers' mark for Francis Webb.
