Description

Here we have an attractive George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with a blue glass liner. The mustard pot was made in Birmingham by famous American silversmiths The Gorham Manufacturing Company and dates to 1919. Gorham was founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1831 and from the 1850s onwards became one of the most famous and influential silver companies in the US. Between 1904 and the start of the Second World War, Gorham also manufactured at the Sterling Works in Birmingham and that's where this mustard pot is from.

This is a very stylish mustard pot with a circular base, a rounded octagonal body and a domed octagonal lid. It is a well made piece in a good gauge of silver and retains its original blue glass liner. The mustard pot is perfectly usable on a modern dining table or would make a great addition to any collection.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear to be expected after over 100 years of use. The blue glass liner is in good condition with no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pot is 4.3cm / 1.7" in diameter across the base, 6.3cm / 2.5" from handle to rim and stands 4.7cm / 1.75" high. Without the blue glass liner it weighs 38.9g / 1.37oz and 68.4g / 2.41oz with the liner.

The hallmarks on the side of the body are clear to read, although the makers' mark is a little rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "u" for 1919 and the G.M.Co makers' mark for The Gorham Manufacturing Company.
