Description

Here we have a good quality Mid-Century Sterling Silver circular Napkin Ring. The ring was made in Birmingham by Joseph Gloster Ltd and dates to 1969. Joseph Gloster established his firm at the Lion Silver Works in Birmingham in 1890 and quickly became very successful. They produced a wide range of personal and household items until they finally closed in the late 1970s.

This napkin ring is circular in form with all round engine turned decoration and a gadrooned rim at both top and bottom. The central cartouche is neatly engraved with the name William. It would make an excellent gift for anyone of that name for a significant birthday, a christening, a retirement or any special occasion.

The condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the most minimal surface wear, such as you would expect after 50 years of service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The ring is 4.4cm / 1.75" in diameter, 2.6cm / 1" deep and weighs a respectable 17.9g / 0.63oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the inside of the ring are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "U" for 1969 and the J.G.Ltd makers' mark for Joseph Gloster Ltd.
