Description

This is a lovely little late Victorian Sterling Silver Bud Vase. The vase is made in Birmingham by A & J Zimmerman and dates to 1900, the last full year of Queen Victoria's reign. Brothers Arthur & John Zimmerman established their firm in Regent Place, Birmingham in 1889 and remained in business until 1929. They produced many different items of consistently high quality.

This bud vase is in a classic organic Art Nouveau design, which has remained popular to this day. It has a circular base, a fluted stem and opens out to a crimped rim. It is ideal for a single flower stem, either on a desk or a breakfast tray or indeed anywhere that space is limited.

Condition is good with no dings or dents and just some superficial surface scratching, which is almost inevitable after 120 years of use. The base is weighted for stability. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vase stands 10cm / 3.9" high and is 5.1cm / 2" in diameter across the rim. It weighs 90.8g / 3.2oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.

The hallmarks on the side of the vase are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "a" for 1900 and the AZ over JZ makers' mark for A & J Zimmerman.
