Here we have an exquisite Edwardian Sterling Silver Sifter Spoon with a shell bowl and pierced handle. The sifter spoon is made in Birmingham by G.E. Walton & Co Ltd and dates to 1904. George Edwin Walton founded his firm in the late 1880s and remained in business until around 1912 making a range of tableware and personal items.

This is a very decorative sifter spoon with a scallop shell bowl and a curved pierced handle. There is no personalisation of any kind. Sifter spoons were designed for sprinkling sugar onto desserts and fresh fruit such as strawberries but they also work well for dusting cocoa powder onto cappuccinos or hot chocolate. This is an unusually ornate design and would also make a great addition to any collection.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the most superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 115 years of service! Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 13.4cm / 5.25" long and weighs a very respectable 16.4g / 0.58oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "e" for 1904 and the G.E.W makers' mark for G.E. Walton & Co Ltd.
