Description

This is a very stylish George V Sterling Silver Ring Dish with pierced sides. The dish is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths A & J Zimmerman and dates to the latter part of World War One in 1917. Brothers Arthur and John Zimmerman were in business in Regent Place, Birmingham between 1889 and 1929. They produced many different items of consistently high quality and were always on the cutting edge of stylistic changes.

This elegant ring dish has a smooth round base from which rise sloping pierced sides with a distinctive diamond and circle pattern topped by a smooth rim. It is over 100 years old but has a timeless quality that would look beautiful on any style of dressing table or bedside cabinet today.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents, no splits in the pierced sides and only the superficial surface wear you would expect on an item of this age and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The dish is 10cm / 4" in diameter across the top and stands 2.3cm / 0.9" high. It is a well made item in a good gauge of silver and weighs in at a very respectable 44.6g / 1.57oz.

The hallmarks on one side of the base are a little rubbed but still very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "s" for 1917 and the very distinctive A&JZ makers' mark for A & J Zimmerman.
