Description

This is a very attractive Mid-Century Sterling Silver Six Slice Toast Rack with a peaked arch design. The toast rack is made in Birmingham by William Suckling Ltd and dates to 1960. William Suckling started his company in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter in the early 1920s and remained in business until the late 1960s. They produced a wide variety of silver tableware and personal items of consistently good quality.

This six slice toast rack is a good size for modern use, with slightly smaller arches meaning it takes up less space on a modern breakfast bar or (if you're lucky enough!) a tray for breakfast in bed. Each arch rises to a central point, giving the rack a slightly eastern feel to it.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, all the racks firmly attached and only the very superficial surface wear that is to be expected after 60 years of service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 11cm / 4.4" long, 5.7cm / 2.25" wide and 8cm / 3.25" high. It weighs a substantial 76.5g / 2.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the side of the toast rack are well struck and very clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "L" for 1960 and the S Ld makers' mark for William Suckling Ltd.
