Description

This is a good quality ornate Victorian Brass Inkstand. The inkstand has an oblong base standing on four bracket feet. The front section has the inkwell, complete with glass liner, which is drum shaped and decorated with scrolls. There are side panels to left and right which are also scroll decorated and form pen rests in front and behind the inkwell. The rear part of the stand is a letter rack, which was probably used to keep blank paper and envelopes.

There is no makers' mark that we can find, so we can't say who it was made by but it is British and dates to around the 1860s-90s.

Condition is good, with no dings, dents or damage to the brass, which has a nice patina. The stand does rock slightly on a flat surface. The glass liner of the inkwell is probably not the original but works well enough. It has a couple of nibbles around its top rim. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The stand is 15.5cm / 6.1ins long, 12.1cm / 4.8ins wide and stands 10.7cm / 4.2ins high. It weighs 900g / 31.7oz.
