Large Art Deco Scent Bottle, William Comyns, 1932

Description
This is a beautiful Large Art Deco Cut Glass Scent Bottle with a Sterling Silver and Enamel Lid. The hand blown glass bottle is oblong with rounded shoulders. It has a star cut base and graduated line cut decoration around the body below engraved floral swags and a spotted border. The bottle has an interior cork and gilt sprinkler top and the silver outer lid has a cork lining and blue guilloche enamel on the top.The scent bottle was made in London by renowned silversmiths William Comyns & Sons and dates to 1932. William Comyns founded his firm in 1859, later being joined by his sons. They produced silverware of the highest quality, often in striking designs. The company passed through several generations of the Comyns family and finally ceased trading in the early 1990s.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the silver and no damage to the enamel. There is some evidence that the silver lid may have been gilded on the outside but if so this has virtually disappeared after many years of polishing. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The perfume bottle is of considerable size, standing 14.6cm / 5.75ins high and being 8.7cm / 3.4ins wide and 5.7cm / 2.2ins deep. It weighs 692g / 24.4oz.
The hallmarks, on the outside of the lid, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter r for 1932 and the R C makers' mark for Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons.
