Description

This is a good quality pair of George VI Sterling Silver 4 Slot Toast Racks of an arched design. The toast racks were made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Adie Brothers Ltd and date to the end of World War Two in 1945. Adie Brothers Ltd were founded in the early 1920s and produced a wide range of high quality silver products from their premises in Frederick Street, Birmingham. They ceased trading in the early 1960s.

Whilst broadly Art Deco style, still very much the fashion in the immediate post-war years, this pair of toast racks have a distinctively curved arch at the top, which gives them an overall softer appearance than the strictly geometric designs of the 1930s. Each toast rack holds 4 pieces of toast.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the most superficial of surface wear. They are perfectly suitable for use today and would add a touch of class to any breakfast table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast racks are each 7.6cm / 3" long, 5.9cm / 2.3" wide and 9cm / 3.7" high to the top of the handle. They are made in a good gauge of silver and the pair together weighs a very respectable 120.4g / 4.25oz of silver.

The hallmarks on the side bar of each rack are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "V" for 1945 and the distinctive A Bros Ltd makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd.
