Description

This is a lovely little George V Sterling Silver Needle Case. It is from world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb, made in Birmingham and dates to the early years of World War One in 1915. Mappin & Webb remain a byword for the highest quality luxury items and have now been trading for over 160 years.

This needle case is a plain silver cylinder with a lift off lid. It may have been part of a more extensive sewing kit in the past or always have been a standalone item. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. It remains perfectly usable as a needle case today and would make a lovely gift for anyone keen on sewing.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the most superficial surface wear, quite remarkable for an item that is 105 years old. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The needle case is 5.5cm / 2.2" tall and 1.5cm / 0.6" in diameter. It weighs a very respectable 12.7g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the base are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "q" for 1915 and the Mn & Wb makers' mark for Mappin & Webb. In addition, the inside of the lid has the lion passant for Sterling Silver and the date letter "q" for 1915.
