Description

This is a fine set of 6 heavyweight George V Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the Hanoverian Feather Edge pattern. The spoons are made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths and cutlers Cooper Brothers & Sons and date to 1928. The firm was founded as Cooper Brothers in 1866 and were an electroplating company. By 1900 they had become Cooper Brothers & Sons and were making solid silver flatware and other tableware. They remained in business until the early 1980s.

This set of 6 teaspoons are in the Hanoverian Feather Edge pattern. Hanoverian spoons were introduced in the early 1700s and are distinguishable from Old English by their turned up ends. Having disappeared in the 1770s, the pattern was reintroduced in the early 20th century and became very popular in the interwar years. This is a well made set of spoons in a very heavy gauge of silver. They are perfectly suitable for use today or would make a great addition to any collection.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear you expect after over 90 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 11.9cm / 4.7" long and the set of 6 weighs a very substantial 94.2g / 3.32oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the undersides of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "l" for 1928 and the CB over &S makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd.
