This is a good quality George III Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. Unusually for an Old English piece, the spoon is engraved on the underside of the stem with the initials I T. This is more commonly found on earlier Hanoverian pattern spoons.

The table spoon was made in Exeter by silversmith Francis Parsons and dates to 1801. Francis Parsons had a long career as a specialist spoon and flatware maker in the city of Exeter from 1797 until 1831. Initially he was in partnership with Stephen Crees before sitting up on his own in 1800. He continued to work with Crees and also had partnerships with Joseph Goss and a B. Goss, whilst also continuing to work by himself.

Condition is good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the bowl plus the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 220 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The table spoon is 21.5cm / 8.4ins long and weighs in at a respectable 47.6g / 1.68oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter E for 1801, the George III duty mark and the F P makers' mark for Francis Parsons.
