Here we have a superb large Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Photo Frame from the Edwardian era. The easel back oval photo frame has a visible picture size of 8ins by 5.75ins. The silver front is embossed with flowers and stems in an asymmetric design on a textured background. There is a blank oval cartouche in the centre at the bottom.

The photo frame was made in Birmingham by William Neale & Son and dates to 1907. The firm was founded by William Neale in Birmingham in 1862 and registered marks in both Birmingham and Chester. They became William Neale & Son in 1890. The company produced a very wide range of silverware from trophies to tea services and cigarette boxes to pencils and were highly successful. They remained in business into the mid 1960s.

Condition is very good, with just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 115 years of good service. The hinges and strut are in good working order and the frame stands securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Overall the frame is 29.5cm / 11.6ins high, 24cm / 9.4ins wide and 20cm / 7.9ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 420g / 14.8oz.

The hallmarks, on the lower left hand side just below the picture, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the W.N makers' mark for William Neale & Son.
