Description

This is a fun Art Deco Sterling Silver Pepper Shaker in the form of a lighthouse. The circular base is weighted for stability and has a bakelite covering on the underside. The shaker lid is a simple pull off. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The pepper shaker was made in London by Henry Perkins & Sons and dates to 1922. Based in Tottenham Court Road from 1901, the firm specialised in silver mounted glassware such as perfume bottles, dressing table jars and vases, small items of tableware and silver mounted pipes, cheroot and cigarette holders and other smoking paraphernalia. They remained in business into the early 1930s.

Condition is good, with just a couple of tiny dings in the body plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 100 years of use. The lid fits securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pepper shaker is 6.5cm / 2.5ins high and 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter across the base. It weighs in at 58.6g / 2.07oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.

The hallmarks, on the base of the shaker with a second set on the lid, are quite rubbed but can still be made out. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter g for 1922 and the H.P & S makers' mark for Henry Perkins & Sons.
