Description

This is a high quality George V Sterling Silver Vesta Case. The case is decorated all over the body with scrolling acanthus leaves around a diamond shaped blank cartouche at the front. The interior is gilded and the back of the body is curved to fit comfortably into a pocket.

The vesta case was made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths W. H. Haseler and dates to 1915. The firm was founded by William Hair Haseler in around 1849 in Birmingham. They will be forever known for their association with Liberty & Co of London for whom they produced the Cymric range of silverware and the Tudric range of pewterware during the first quarter of the 20th century during which period Liberty & Co were co-owners of the business. After WW2 they became known as Haseler & Restall and remained in business into the 1970s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 110 years of use. The hinge is in good working order and the lid snaps shut securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vesta case measures 4cm / 1.6ins by 2.9cm / 1.1ins and weighs in at a respectable 18.6g / 0.66oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the inside rim of the body, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter q for 1915 and the W H H makers' mark for William Hair Haseler.
