Here we have a lovely Edwardian Sterling Silver Photo Frame with a visible picture size of 5.5ins by 3.75ins. The frame stands upright with an easel back. The broad silver front is bevelled and has an attractive floral motif in the centre at the top. The back and strut are covered in blue velvet.

The photo frame was made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths James Deakin & Sons and dates to 1910. James Deakin founded the firm in 1866 and by 1878 and had been joined by his son William as partner, with two further sons joining in the 1880s. The company was very successful with manufacturing in Sheffield and Birmingham alongside showrooms in London, Glasgow and Belfast. They remained in business until the mid 1930s.

Condition is good, with just a few tiny dings in the silver and the overall superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The frame is 20cm / 7.9ins high by 15.5cm / 6.1ins wide and 13cm / 5.1ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 345g / 12.2oz.

The hallmarks, on the bottom rim of the silver front, are somewhat rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter l for 1910 and the distinctive J D over W D in a shield makers' mark for John & William Deakin of James Deakin & Sons.
