Description

This is a stylish Pair of Vintage Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The rings are D-shaped with two bands of engine turned decoration to either side of rectangular bank cartouches.

The napkin rings were made in Birmingham by Henry Griffith & Sons and date to 1968. Henry Griffith founded his firm in Birmingham in the 1870s, becoming Henry Griffith & Sons around 1890. They specialised in silver jewellery, smoking accessories, thimbles and small personal items. In 1919 they relocated to nearby Leamington Spa in Warwickshire and remained in business until at least the late 1970s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the most minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each napkin ring is 4.6cm / 1.8ins across, 3.8cm / 1.5ins high and 1.9cm / 0.75ins deep. The pair together weigh in at a respectable 27.0g / 0.95oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside bases of the rings, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter T for 1968 and the H.G & S makers' mark for Henry Griffith & Sons.
