Description

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Circular Photo Frame with a visible picture size of 5.25ins diameter. The silver front of the frame is plain and it has a wooden back with an easel style strut.

The photo frame was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Marson & Jones and dates to 1919. Frederick Marson established his firm in Birmingham in 1845 and was succeeded by his son, Frederick Junior in 1896. He took Harry Jones as partner in 1915 and the company was renamed Marson & Jones, a name it retained after Frederick’s retirement in 1918. They remained in business up until the start of WW2.

Condition is very good, with just a couple of little dings on the left hand side of the rim plus the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 105 years of use. The strut is in good condition and the frame stands securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The photo frame measures 16.4cm / 6.45ins in diameter and is 14cm / 5.5ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 187g / 6.6oz.

The hallmarks, on the top left shoulder of the frame, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the M & J makers' mark for Marson & Jones.
