Here we have a striking large Vintage Sterling Silver Photo Frame with an easel back. The frame has an oval visible picture size of 8.25ins by 5.75ins. The silver front is embossed with scrolls and flowers and has a blank cartouche in the centre of the top of the frame. The back of the frame and the strut are covered in blue velvet.

The photo frame was made in London and dates to 1986. The makers' mark is a little distorted by we believe it is that for Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons. William Comyns founded his firm in 1859, later being joined by his sons. They produced silverware of the highest quality, often in striking designs. The company passed through several generations of the Comyns family and finally ceased trading in the early 1990s.

Condition is very good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. The strut and back opening are all in good order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The frame is of a substantial size standing 32cm / 12.6ins high and 24.5cm / 9.6ins wide. With the strut fully extended it is 15cm / 5.9ins deep. All in it weighs 526g / 18.5oz.

The hallmarks, in the bottom left hand corner, are nice and clear to read apart from the distortion to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter M for 1986 and we believe the R C in a shield makers' mark for Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons.
