Description

This is a stylish Early 20th Century Silver Plate Spirit Kettle. The stand is circular with three bracket legs ending in disc feet and supporting the spirit burner. The kettle has a circular body, stepped hinged lid and cane wrapped handle.

The spirit kettle was made in Sheffield by Boardman, Glossop & Co and dates to between around 1900 and 1920 or possibly a little earlier. Initially founded by Charles Boardman as silversmiths in 1844, by 1850 they had almost entirely switched to electroplating. A.O. Glossop joined the firm as partner around 1860 and they became Boardman, Glossop & Co in 1887. They manufactured in Sheffield and had a showroom in London's Holborn district. The business was finally bought out in 1924 by Frank Cobb & Co.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents, just some small patches of plate loss on the top side of the kettle and the burner plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The kettle is 18.7cm / 7.4ins from spout to handle, 14cm / 5.5ins across and 25cm / 9.8ins high when placed on the stand. It weighs 950g / 33.5oz.

The underside of the kettle is stamped with EP for silver plate, B & G for Boardman & Glossop, GS which is for Glossop Sheffield and the product number 6054.
