Description

This is a wonderfully stylish Mid-Century Danish Silver Plate Taper Holder. The holder stands on a circular pedestal base and has a trefoil shaped drip tray. The holder takes a 1.2cm diameter taper or candle.

The taper holder was made in Fredericia by H O Hansens Sølvsmedie and dates to around the 1950s to 1970s. The firm was founded in Fredericia, Denmark in 1947. They were both silversmiths and electroplaters and their pieces are typical of Danish mid-century style. They are best known for their very distinctive candle holders in many different designs. The firm ceased trading in 1980.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The taper holder is 6.4cm / 2.5ins wide and stands 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. It weighs in at 39.7g / 1.4oz.

The underside of the base is stamped with the torch mark of the Danish Organisation of Silver Plate Manufacturers, to show that it is high quality silver plate. Below this is the script H O H mark above DENMARK for H O Hansens Sølvsmedie.
