Description

This is a romantic Vintage Sterling Silver Photo Frame with a Heart Shaped picture display and an easel back. The visible image size is 4.5ins high and 3.75ins across at its widest point. The silver frame is elaborately decorated with winged putti, scrolling acanthus leaves and flowers. The shield shaped cartouche at the top is blank.

The frame was made for David Richards & Sons in London and dates to 1988. David Richards & Sons is a retail silversmith trading as The Silver Shop in New Cavendish Street in London’s West End. It has passed through several generations of the Richards family going back for over a hundred years. During the 1970s and 1980s they commissioned silver items to their own design which were marked with the D R & S sponsors’ mark.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. The velvet on the back is a little rubbed, as you would expect but everything is in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Overall the frame stands 21cm / 8.2ins high, 17cm / 6.7ins across and is 13.5cm / 5.3ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs in at 238g / 8.4oz.

The hallmarks at the bottom of the frame are a little rubbed but still clear to read. On one foot are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London and the date letter O for 1988. On the other is the D R & S sponsors' mark for David Richards & Sons.
