Description

Here we have a beautiful Set of Six Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Buttons. The buttons are circular with a woman in profile looking to the left.

The buttons were made in Birmingham by silversmiths Reynolds & Westwood and date to 1902. The firm was founded by John Reynolds and George Frederick Westwood in the mid 1890s and operated out of premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. They produced a wide range of small silver items, notably buttons, mostly for personal use and of consistently good quality. The firm ceased trading around 1911/12.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each button is 2.4cm in diameter and the set of six together weigh in at a very respectable 38.7g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the front of the buttons to the right of the woman's head, are nice and easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter c for 1902 and the R & W makers' mark for Reynolds & Westwood.
