Description

This is an attractive Vintage Sterling Silver Mounted Cut Crystal Scent Bottle with an atomiser attachment. The crystal bottle has cross cut decoration around the body and star cut decoration on the base. The silver cap is embossed with a bird, scrolls and flowers. The inner collar and the atomiser are chrome.

The cut crystal bottle was made by Royal Brierley, a firm that dates back to 1776 and takes its name from Brierley Hill near Stourbridge. Since 2005 the brand has been owned by Dartington Crystal and manufacture relocated to North Devon.

The Sterling Silver cap was made in Birmingham by Broadway & Co and dates to 1973. Broadway & Co was founded by William Benjamin Broadway in Birmingham in 1901. The company, now called Broadway Silversmiths, remains under the control of the Broadway family to this day and still uses many of the original dies and tools from the early years of the company.

Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the crystal bottle and no dings or dents in the silver or chrome. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The scent atomiser is 10.7cm / 4.2ins high, 9cm / 3.5ins from from the front of the bottle to the back of the atomiser and 6.3cm / 2.5ins in diameter. The cap by itself weighs in at 10g / 0.35oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the atomiser weighs 379.3g / 13.38oz.

The cut crystal bottle still retains its original Royal Brierley sticker, although it is a little ragged. The silver hallmarks, on the inside of the cap, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the centenary anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter Y for 1973 and the B & Co makers' mark for Broadway & Co.
