Description

Here we have a handsome, tall Vintage Sterling Silver Candlestick from the 1970s. The candlestick has a circular stepped base, weighted for stability, with a beaded upper rim. The stem tapers outwards from the base and there is an urn shaped sconce at the top. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The candlestick was made in Birmingham by silversmiths A.T.Cannon and dates to 1973. Founded in the 1960s, A.T. Cannon Ltd operated from premises in Barr Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter but also had a mark registered in Sheffield. They made small pieces of silverware, candlesticks and many commemorative items, particularly for Royal Events. The firm ceased trading in the early 2000s.

Condition is extremely good with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The candlestick stands 23cm / 9ins high and is 9.4cm / 3.7ins in diameter across the base. It weighs in at a hefty 337.6g / 11.9oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.

The hallmarks, on the side of the base, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter Y for 1973 and the A.T.C makers' mark for A.T. Cannon.
