Here we have an exquisite Set of Six Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Buttons. The buttons are circular with a distinctively Nouveau pierced design of a woman's face surrounded by flowers and foliage.

The buttons were made in Birmingham by or for William H Walter and date to 1901. William Harrison Walter was a manufacturing and retail silversmith based in Newgate Street in London. Established in 1888, the firm both made their own silverware and commissioned pieces from other manufacturers that were then stamped with the WHW mark. The company had marks registered in London, Birmingham and Chester, which are seen across a wide range of silverware. They ceased trading around 1910.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each button is 2.7cm in diameter and the set of six together weigh in at a very respectable 42.2g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outer rim at the front of the buttons, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter b for 1901 and the W H W makers' mark for William Harrison Walter.
