Description

This is a very high quality set of 6 Art Deco Sterling Silver Seal Top Coffee Spoons in their original box. The spoons are made by Robert Pringle & Sons and assayed in Sheffield in 1939.

Robert Pringle founded his silversmiths company in Clerkenwell Road, London (an area that was home to many silversmiths) in around 1870, becoming Robert Pringle & Sons in the late 1880s. They produced a broad range of good quality silverware up until the late 1950s, with their later manufacturing being done in Sheffield, although their offices remained in London.

This set of 6 coffee spoons are in the classic seal top style. This was a very early spoon design which was revived in the Deco period. The spoons have no initials or personalisation of any kind.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only very minimal wear. The spoons have clearly been very well looked after and may not have seen a great deal of use. The box is in good condition with just two small scuff marks on the upper left hand corner of the lid. The push button clasp works smoothly and holds the box securely shut. The spoons will make a great gift, are entirely suitable for use today or would be a good addition to any collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The coffee spoons are each 9.2cm long and the set of 6 (unboxed) weighs a substantial 60g.
The box is 14.4cm by 12.4cm and 2.3cm high.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stems, which are well struck and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "w" for 1939 and the R.P makers' mark for Robert Pringle & Sons.
