Description

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Bonbon Dish. The dish is round with a slightly convex base. The lower part is solid and above this is a pierced gallery topped by a flat thread and leaf rim.

The bonbon dish was made in Sheffield by famous silversmiths Walker & Hall and dates to 1926. Walker & Hall are one of the great names of English silverware. The firm was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853 to form Walker & Hall. Hugely successful and very highly regarded they remained in business until they were merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.

Condition is good with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the body plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 95 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The dish is 10.5cm / 4.1ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 3.2cm / 1.2ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 41.1g / 1.45oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, just below the rim of the dish, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter i for 1926 and the W & H makers' mark for Walker & Hall.
