Description

This is an attractive, good quality Vintage Egyptian 900 Grade Silver Finger Bowl. This would be filled with lukewarm water, often scented with rose or lemon, and placed on the dining table for diners to rinse their fingers between courses. It works equally well as a trinket dish for a dressing table, to hold snacks or nibbles or for sauces on the dining table.

The bowl was made in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, in 900 grade silver and dates to 1965-1967. Egyptian date marks often cover two or three year periods. There are no makers' marks on Egyptian silver so we are unable to say which silversmith created the bowl.

Condition is very good, with just one very slight flat spot in the bowl where one leg has pushed upwards plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The bowl is 10cm / 3.9ins in diameter and stands 3.6cm / 1.4ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 87.5g / 3.1oz of solid 900 grade silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are a little rubbed but can still be deciphered. They show the papyrus flower mark for Egyptian silver, the Cairo city mark above the 90 fineness mark for 900 grade silver and the Arabic date mark for 1965-67.
