Description

This is a good set of Five Vintage Sterling Silver Mounted Napkin Rings. The napkin rings are made from turned wood with a deep silver band around the middles of the bodies. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The napkin rings were made in London by David Shaw Silverware and date to 1980. Established in 1973, David Shaw Silverware operated from premises in London's Clerkenwell Road, the City of London's traditional home for silversmiths. They produced a broad range of silverware, mostly for table use, until they ceased trading in 1992.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or densts in the silver, no splits in the wood and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each napkin ring is 4.3cm / 1.7ins in diameter and 2.7cm / 1.1ins deep. The set of five together weighs in at 115.4g / 4.1oz.

The hallmarks, on the central silver bands, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter F for 1980 and the D S S in a shield makers' mark for David Shaw Silverware.
