Description

This is a smart George V Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard spoon was made in Sheffield by W.S. Savage & Co and dates to 1924. Walter S. Savage was the son of George Savage, an established razor smith in Sheffield. In the 1860s he left his father’s firm to set up his own business as a cutler within his father’s premises in Pond Street. In 1894 Walter registered his first makers’ mark at the Sheffield assay office and began to produce silver flatware, becoming W.S. Savage & Co in the early 1900s. The firm was bought by Frank Cobb & Co in the mid-1930s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard spoon is 7.1cm / 2.8ins long and weighs in at 3.6g / 0.13oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter g for 1924 and the W S S & Co makers' mark for W.S. Savage & Co.
