Description

This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon. The spoon is in the King's shape but with a beaded rim and a flower swirl at the top of the stem. We haven't been able to find a name for this pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard spoon was made in Birmingham by silversmiths E.S. Barnsley & Co and dates to 1906. Edward Souter Barnsley registered his mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1887. His firm was based in Frederick Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and made a very wide range of silverware for the table, for domestic and for personal use. The company remained in business into the early 1920s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard spoon is 7.8cm / 3ins long and weighs in at 7.6g / 0.27oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the back of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter g for 1906 and the E.S.B makers' mark for E.S. Barnsley & Co.
