Edwardian Silver Bachelor Teapot, Zimmerman, 1906
Description
Here we have an unusual Edwardian Sterling Silver Bachelor Teapot. The teapot is cauldron shaped and sits on three spread feet. The top rim is scalloped and ascends to the central hinged lid. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The teapot was made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths A & J Zimmerman and dates to 1906. The firm was founded by brothers Arthur & John Zimmerman in Birmingham in 1879, operating from premises at Regent Place in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. They later opened a second premises and a showroom in London. They produced a wide range of silverware of consistently good quality up until they ceased trading around 1930.
Condition is generally good with just a couple of very shallow bruises to the body plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teapot measures 18.5cm / 7.3ins from spout to handle, 10.5cm / 4.1ins across the body and stands 12cm / 4.7ins high to the top of the finial. It weighs in at a substantial 211.7g / 7.5oz.
The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter g for 1906 and the A & J Z makers' mark for A & J Zimmerman.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the teapot.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
