Description

Here we have a fabulously stylish Art Deco Green Glass Flower Bowl or Vase. The bowl stands on four feet with frosted panels rising up the body from each foot and broadening out to form part of the overhanging rim. There are clear green glass panels inbetween the frosted ones with chevron decoration as they curl to form the overhang.

The flower bowl was made in Gateshead by Sowerby Glass and dates to the 1930s. It is Sowerby pattern no. 2631. John Sowerby established the Gateshead Stamped Glass Works in 1846. Initially they produced mostly functional glassware but in 1877 Sowerby introduced a range of Milk Glass that was very successful. In the 1920s they developed irridiscent Carnival Glass and in the 1930s they launched a range of stunning Art Deco designs for which the company is most famous. The company was bought out in 1957 and the factory closed in 1972.

Overall condition is very good however there is a chip on the side of one foot. The bowl still looks stunning however. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The flower bowl stands 14.2cm / 5.6ins high and is 21.2cm / 8.3ins across at its widest point. It weighs 1.02kg / 36oz.
