Description

This is a neat pair of George V Sterling Silver Mustard Spoons in the traditional Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard spoons were made in Birmingham by A.J. Bailey and date to 1921. The firm of A.J.Bailey was established in Birmingham in the 1890s, later becoming A.J. Bailey & Son. They principally produced flatware and tableware and were very successful, remaining in business under the management of the Bailey family until well into the 1970s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 7.1cm / 2.8ins long and the pair together weigh in at 5.8g / 0.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bowls, are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the A.J.B makers' mark for A.J. Bailey.
