Description

This is a smart Mid-Century Sterling Silver Egg Cup. The egg cup has a domed circular foot whilst the goblet shaped cup has a double rolled rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The egg cup was made in London and dates to 1950. The maker is simply identified as J.E.D & S and they seem to have had a fairly brief existence with their mark only being recorded on a range of tableware in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 70 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The egg cup is 5.9cm / 2.3ins tall and 4.2cm / 1.6ins in diameter. It weighs in at a respectable 31.2g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside of the body just below the rim, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter P for 1950 and the J.E.D & S makers' mark.
