Description

Here we have a striking and unusual Early 20th Century Continental Silver Belt. Each link is formed as a set of four circles with a quatrefoil centre decorated with a flower. The buckle is a large quatrefoil with a central daisy design and two hooks which lock into whichever link gives you the right size. There is also a clip at the other end of the belt which goes over the top like a belt loop.

The belt is 84.5cm / 33ins long and the links are 2cm / 0.75ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 117.4g / 4.1oz of solid silver. Condition is extremely good.

The belt is simply marked 100% on the back of the buckle. It tests as very high grade silver, at least 950/1000, and is very soft so it could well be 100% pure silver.

There is no makers' mark or country of origin mark so we cannot say who made it or where. It is in the Art Nouveau style which was prevalent in the early 20th century.

Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the belt.
