Description

Here we have a very attractive early 20th Century Dutch 833 Silver Pierced Bowl. The bowl is oval with a solid base and the pierced sides are decorated with birds, flowers and foliage. There are no initials or engraving of any kind.

The bowl is made by the firm Zaanlandse Zilversmederije and assayed in Amsterdam in 1939. Zaanlandse were active in both Haarlem and Amsterdam from the 1920s to the 1990s.

Condition is very good, with just a few tiny dings in the base. There is no damage to the intricate pierced design, just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The dish measures 16.5cm / 6.5ins by 12.1cm / 4.7ins and stands 2.4cm / 0.94ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 90.0g / 3.2oz of solid 833 grade silver.

The hallmarks, below one bird and on its outspread wing, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant above the number 2 for 833/1000 grade silver, the Minerva assay mark with A on the helmet for Amsterdam, the date letter E for 1939 and the Z Z either side of a hammer makers' mark for Zaanlandse Zilversmederije.

Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
