Description

This is a good quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Sifter Spoon in the Thread & Bow pattern, with an inner line of beading. The stem is double struck, ie the pattern is on both sides, and the pierced bowl has a flower design. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The sifter spoon was made in Sheffield by acclaimed silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Sons and dates to 1909. The firm traced its origin back to Fenton, Creswick & Co in 1773 with the first Thomas Bradbury joining as a partner in 1795. By 1831 the firm was run by Thomas Bradbury Snr & Jnr and remained in the control of the Bradbury family until the early years of the 20th century. The company was bought by Atkin Brothers in 1943 and they maintained the brand name into the early 1950s.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 11.1cm / 4.4ins long and weighs in at a respectable 22.9g / 0.81oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter r for 1909 and the T B & S in a shield makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons.
